Full-time, contract position (ending March 2013)
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is a dynamic, non-profit organization leading the way in finding a cure for multiple sclerosis and enabling people affected by MS to enhance their quality of life.
The Coordinator, Research will provide support to Vice-President, Research and its committees with the management of correspondence and information flow and planning that accompanies meetings and committee activities. The Coordinator will also provide support to the Research Department and the endMS Research and Training Network as requested.
Responsibilities:
Plan and co-ordinate all aspects of meetings such as accommodation and transportation for participants, meeting and other facilities, catering, displays, translation, special needs requirements, audio-visual equipment, printing, and contract negotiation for services
Attend all meetings of the MS Society Research Programs and its committees
Record and distribute, on a timely basis, the minutes of the meetings attended
Record and distribute the items for action from meetings
Prepare meeting agendas in consultation with the Vice-President, Research
Collect and package information required for meetings as requested
Assist the ad hoc committees in collecting information and presenting information for decisions
Format, edit, and proofread correspondence, reports and presentations
Prepare expense reports
Provide support, as requested, for meetings, conferences and to the department in general
Qualifications:
University Degree or College Diploma in health sciences, business or office administration with at least 2 years of experience in general or executive office administration, or the equivalent education and experience
Exceptional organizational ability and attention to detail
Excellent event management and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
Ability to work independently, yet possess capabilities for working in a multi-task, team oriented environment
Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel & Outlook coupled with strong research abilities using online and print resources
Strong verbal and written communication skills with superb interpersonal skills
Mature, professional, dynamic and a good facilitator
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
Excellent project management with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to communicate in a professional manner to internal and external customers, and customers of various levels
Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and practice good decision making
Ability to understand and interact with persons with disabilities
Ability to interact in multi-level organizations

The Coordinator, Client Services will be responsible for supporting the Chapter Manager to develop, coordinate, deliver and evaluate the programs and services, which enhance the quality of life for people affected by MS.
This position is a position of trust. The successful incumbent will be required to complete the screening process including completion of appropriate background checks in compliance with the National Screening Measures Policy (2006).
Responsibilities:
Respond to calls from persons with MS, their families and health care professionals, informing them of available community and social services, financial resources and the services of the Chapter
Provide telephone, office, home support and support counseling with follow-up services to persons and their families throughout various stages of the disease
Assist clients, and advocate when requested, to work through the social support systems to address such issues of disability, housing, employment and pensions
Provide assistance to the support groups in our chapter, as required
Maintain current knowledge of community resources and programs through continuing professional development
Process client requests for equipment and special assistance funding according to the Chapter Client Services Funding Policy and Ontario Division Funding Guidelines and annual allotted budget
Maintain client files in accordance with the Ontario Client Services Manual and the policies of the MS Society
Prepare and maintain inventory of MS literature, books and other resources
Respond to membership inquiries by sending information about the Chapter and its programs as well as current membership form
Oversee all aspects of the Chapter yoga classes and other recreation programs as appropriate
Oversee all aspects of the Summer Student Program including interviewing, training, supervising, evaluation and record keeping
Represent the interests of our members by serving on external committees, with the approval of the Chapter Manager
Keep an up-to-date and accurate budget, tracking all client expenses, receipts and postings
Provide students, people with MS, their families and the community with accurate, current information about MS, as required
In consultation with the Director of Education and the Education committee, identify, plan, implement and evaluate educational programs
Secure finances and professional resources to support delivery of education program, with the assistance of the Chapter Manager
Produce a quarterly chapter newsletter to update all members of all events, and other updates
Provide presentations to service clubs and organizations, as requested
Assist in the promotion of special events, and attend as required
Qualifications:
University Degree or Community College Diploma in Social Sciences, Social Work, Health Sciences or a related field with at least 2 years of experience in a non-for-profit organization, community agency and/or health related discipline preferably working with special needs populations or the equivalent education & experience
A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required
A working knowledge of community services and resources available for clients and families of people with MS is required
Possess excellent communication skills both verbal & written
Demonstrated ability to deliver effective presentations to a wide variety of audiences
Possess above average computer skills with experience on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task items with conflicting deadlines
Proven ability to facilitate group work
Possess superb customer service skills
Strong team player with the ability to work independently
Ability to program plan to meet the needs of the membership and their families
Knowledge, and empathetic understanding, of issues related to living with a chronic illness
Location: Mississauga with regional travel.
Occasional evening and weekend work along with physical event work is a component of this job.
